The one problem is that the app is Facebook - considered a bit of an essential by most phone users.
Thankfully, there is a way round it - and it seems to work on many models of Android handset.
The trick was first noticed by Android Central writer Russell Holly – but has since been tested by various Redditors and tech writers.
Holly said, ‘Recently I noticed some performance issues on multiple phones, and had started paying closer attention to what exactly was causing these problems. When Facebook turned out to be one of the more egregious resource hogs, I uninstalled it to see how things improved.
‘Not only did my performance issues go away entirely, but I discovered I didn’t actually lose any of the Facebook features I cared about by uninstalling the app.
Holly recommends running Facebook in Android’s Chrome browser - which even offers Notifications, just like the main app.
Many report that battery life goes up by 20% just from removing the app, and there are lots of anecdotal reports of boosted speeds, too.
